Folic acid is a member of the B complex family of vitamins and is also known as folate. Folic acid functions as a coenzyme in DNA and RNA synthesis and is therefore important for healthy cell division and replication. It helps regulate embryonic and fetal nerve cell formation, which is vital for normal development.
