Top dimple-busting tips

Cellulite: most of us have it, and most of us would probably prefer it if we didn’t. Here’s why it appears and what you can do to try and reduce it.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is the appearance of fat cells below the skin. As these fat pockets push against tissue they cause the skin to dimple. Cellulite usually appears around puberty and is more common in women, but it can also be caused by:

• An unhealthy diet

• Yo-yo dieting

• Lack of exercise

• Dehydration

• Body fat percentage

• Slow metabolism

How to help reduce cellulite

If your cellulite bothers you, you can help reduce its appearance by:

Diet & exercise

Improving your diet – focus more on fresh fruit, vegetables, lean protein and wholegrain carbohydrates and less on processed food and drink, such as white bread and fizzy drinks.

Exercising regularly – aim to exercise three times a week or more. This will help reduce the fat layer that shows cellulite dimples.

Drinking lots of water – try to drink between two and four litres of water per day to help flush out toxins.

Massage

Daily massage over the affected areas will help to increase blood flow and reduce fluid build-up. This can be done with a body brush or by hand. It’s particularly effective at reducing cellulite on the legs and buttocks but needs to be done consistently for a few weeks to see results. Try it before you get in the shower or bath.

Creams & topical treatments

Alongside massage, the regular use of a cellulite treatment cream can help improve the appearance of dimpled skin. Some of these include caffeine, vitamins and minerals to help fat breakdown.

Our top tip: get moving! As well as lifting your mood and a whole host of other benefits, exercise is great at helping to reduce the look of cellulite
